Quantum Computing discussed at the Annual Conference
Since 2016, the conference, co-organized by Carnegie India and the foreign ministry, has been an annual event. We know that Artificial Intelligence and quantum computing will give us a great edge, and that technology will help us discover solutions to some of humanity's most difficult problems.' British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said on 14th December that technology has become a fundamental yardstick for measuring a nation's position, and democracies confront problems in this respect. "Technologies have always been a two-edged sword. It has ushered in new vistas of development while also contributing to increased vulnerabilities and dangers. "Finding the proper balance has been a repeating topic in global governance," Jaishankar said in a virtual presentation at the Global Technology Summit 2021.
AI is poised to revolutionize India's current and future economies: Mr. Jitendra Singh
According to the minister, India is at a tipping point, with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, block chain, green energy, and quantum computing poised to usher in one of the most significant technological shifts of the century. As one of the innovative technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) is altering India's current and future economies. Artificial intelligence is beginning to have an influence in India in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, education, government, and financial services. According to Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, India's innovation ecosystem provides enterprises with new chances to generate value, innovate, and expand. According to the minister, India is at a tipping point, with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, block chain, green energy, and quantum computing poised to usher in one of the most significant technological shifts of the century.
IIIT-Delhi and IIT-Delhi Join Forces to Conduct Cutting-Edge Interdisciplinary Research
Taking it a step further, IIT Delhi and IIIT-Delhi invited faculty members from both institutions to submit joint research projects for inter-disciplinary research in innovative fields such as computer science and engineering, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), electronics and communication engineering, computational biology, social science, humanities, and quantum computing. IIT Delhi and the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-Delhi) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) earlier this year to build a collaborative platform for mutual benefit. The MoU aimed to kick off broad collaborations in academia, research, product and process development, and human resource development that would have a significant socioeconomic impact. An external expert committee examined the proposals and chose five to receive a seed grant. Among the projects are: (i) Research on human brain anatomy and anxiety. (ii) Femtech and its prospects in India. (iii) Nanodevice development. (iv) Ramanujam's theories on mathematics. (v) Deep-model transfer assessment that is model agnostic.
The pandemic demonstrated that we cannot hide anyplace, and geopolitics will be dominated by technology, according to Mohandas Pai
Experts have urged for a worldwide coalition of tech-intensive cities, putting India's innovation capital, Bengaluru, on par with Tokyo, Boston, Silicon Valley, Tel Aviv, London, and Frankfurt. T.V. Mohandas Pai, co-founder, and chairwoman of Aarin Capital, asserted that the 'safety of the world' is in the hands of technology, saying that geopolitics today would be directed by technology. "While China may be exceeding the United States in various layers of technology, the rest of the world should band together to guarantee that technology is used for peace rather than hegemony." "We need to collaborate in areas of high-tech that can be used for mankind in a more equitable and democratic way," Pai said, adding that Bengaluru is home to R&D centers for 450 of the world's Fortune 500 businesses. "The epidemic has showed us that we have no place to hide." We are all in the same boat and must collaborate. We must think large. Geopolitics will be technology-led, with tech invention, innovation, and dominance. It will decide the planet's future safety," he stated. Pai proposed a five-point plan to make India, particularly Bengaluru, the preferred location for start-ups. "We need a high-tech vision, to invest at the top of the pyramid, to support R&D in ten sectors such as AI, BT, space research, Quantum computing, Metaverse, and so on." "In order to engage in research, we need to have a strategy and a kitty of Rs 500,000 crore in the state government," he added.
The National University of Singapore has established a Quantum Science and Engineering Centre
The Quantum Science and Engineering Centre at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has created microchips the size of a fingernail that can forecast stock performance, encrypt data, and mimic networks such as COVID-19 clusters. The center's goal is to create systems and technologies that are fueled by quantum physics, which is the study of how particles act at the atomic level. The Centre's mission is to train competent workers for quantum engineering, to apply quantum science to real-world circumstances, and to promote and expand Singapore's quantum sector. It will work with the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT), a Research Centre of Excellence created in 2007, on quantum technology research and engineering applications, and will attempt to develop an international platform with additional abroad partners. The center, Singapore's first of its type, will perform research on creating and manufacturing quantum devices utilizing semiconductor fabrication technology. These chips serve as the foundation for quantum devices such quantum chip CPUs, networks, and sensors. They have a wide range of applications, including quantum computing, communication, cryptography, cybersecurity, and sensor technologies.

Global Technology Summit 2021
Carnegie India’s Technology and Society Program seeks to understand the reciprocal effects technology and society have on each other. It focuses on the future of data, encryption, digital currencies, and payments; and norms and rules that may shape global technology governance. The Technology and Society Program at Carnegie India is supported by Tata Trusts, Harman, Mohandas Pai, Facebook, Flipkart, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Intel, Google, Amazon, BillDesk, WhatsApp, and National Payments Corporation of India. The sixth iteration of the Global Technology Summit, themed ‘Global Meets Local’, that aims to take an in-depth look at the changing nature of technology and geopolitics, assess its global effects, and consider the emerging realities. Held in a hybrid format from 14 to 16th December, the summit will convene industry experts, policymakers, scholars, scientists, and other stakeholders from all over the world to deliberate over three days on three comprehensive sub-themes—The Future of Technology: Resilience and Partnerships; Technology & Innovation: Roadmap to Sustainability and Inclusion; and Glocalizing Emerging Technologies: Building Digital Capabilities.
